Oold Rishworthians moved closer to safety in Yorkshire II with a 50-17 win over Moortown.

On a heavy pitch, Rishworthians put in their best display of the season to record a seventh league win.

Strong running from James Clarke and locks Jioti Bakoso and Frank Watene ensured Rishworthians were on top from the outset, as full-back Joe Billing kicked an early penalty to give them the lead.

Flanker Fraser Swarbrooke then won a lineout and was driven forward, with prop Reuben Pollard barging over for the game’s first try, which Billing converted.

The hosts were hit by a Moortown try from an interception, but came back as Watene broke to put Damian Ball over. Again Billing converted.

Interplay between Anthony Shoesmith, Billing and replacement Gerard Rollings ended with flanker Chris Dyson touching down, and Billing converted to send Rishworthians into the break leading 24-5.

Early in the second-half Simon Edmundson dived over in the corner to extend the hosts’ lead, and straight from the restart Watene gathered and put Shoesmith away, who passed inside for centre Kurt Sutcliffe to cruise over.

A fine move in the backs then set up Ball to touch down, before Moortown ran in a converted try.

Rishworthians came back with centre Chris Flanagan scoring to bring up 50 points, before the visitors scored a consolation try.
