HUDDERSFIELD rugby union club’s Mark Sowerby reckons Chris Johnson will only get better for his England Counties experience.
He’s also pleased that young second rower Ben Harris will be in Yorkshire Under 20 action tomorrow, with a chance to set his sights even higher.
“I’m absolutely delighted for Chris because selection is deserved recognition of his talent,” said Sowerby, director of rugby at Lockwood Park.
“It is also a terrific achievement to be chosen above so many others from teams playing in higher divisions than Chris and reflects very well on the club. He has done exceptionally well to get where he has, and his basic talent is clear for everyone to see.
“It will be a great experience for Chris, and give him an insight into what it is like to play at a higher level.”
On Harris, Sowerby added: “Ben must also be congratulated for his selection for Yorkshire Under 20s, again a tremendous achievement to be selected ahead of players from bigger clubs, such as Leeds, Rotherham and Doncaster, where their Academy players are virtually full-time professionals.
“Ben has come on massively in the last couple of years. He’s as keen as mustard and growing in confidence all the time.
“He is only 19 so still has another year with the county Under 20s, and who knows, even England Under 20s is not beyond him.”
