IT’S back to basics for coach Jamie Marsden’s troubled YMCA tomorrow when they entertain Skipton in the second round of the EDF Energy Senior Vase at Laund Hill (3.00).

Having beaten Leodiensians at the end of last month, the new head coach was optimistic that his team may have turned the corner, but subsequent defeats to Moortown and North Ribblesdale have proved otherwise.

“Unfortunately, it looks like we are back to square one, after a promising show against Leos,” said Marsden.

“We looked good in places last week, but then allowed ourselves to be pushed around in the scrum and mauls.

“In the end we got what we deserved, although had the perfectly good try we scored not been disallowed, I think it would have been game, set and match.

“Now we have to start again, and it will not be easy as we have some very hard games coming up.”

Tomorrow’s will be no pushover as Skipton are now third in the Yorkshire I table and YMCA (who are in Yorkshire II) have injuries.

Both the coach and his centre partner Stuart Morton remain on the injured list after getting crocked at Moortown, while hooker James Bell is now set for a long lay-off after suffering an AC shoulder joint injury.

With Chris Clarke away on a coaching course and skipper Neil Walker carrying an ankle injury, the omens are bleak.

Sam Housley has been chosen at No8 in place of Walker, who is on the bench, while James Swift continues at No10, paving the way for Adam Atkins to make his first-team debut at full-back.
