HUDDERSFIELD Rugby Union Club’s Chris Johnson will be aiming to impress when England Counties tackle Ireland in Dublin.
The former Rochdale player, who has played a major role in helping Huddersfield move up from the North East division through North I and into National III North this season, starts on the bench for England today, but has been told he is covering both fly-half and inside centre and has been guaranteed some game time against the Irish at Donnybrook (ko 5pm).
"Training has been brilliant and there are some really exciting players here," said Johnson.
"We arrived on Tuesday and immediately set up some backs’ moves, and on Wednesday we had two hours hard training in the morning and another two hours in the afternoon.
"We had another two hours on Thursday morning and an hour yesterday afternoon before going into our pre-match run-down.
"I’ve been told I’ll definitely get on during the game – hopefully sooner rather than later – and then I’m just hoping to make an impression.
"The England selectors are re-selecting on Monday, so obviously I’m hoping to be included again for the match against France Amateurs at Twickenham on March 15."
The England Counties squad is chosen from teams in the National Leagues, but outside the Premiership and is a great accolade for both Johnson and Huddersfield.
