DANNY RAMSDEN blazed in for a quartet of tries as Huddersfield junior rugby union team blitzed Keighley 57-0 in the Yorkshire Under 19 League clash at Lockwood Park.

County back rower Ramsden was eager to get into action, having spent the previous afternoon as an unused substitute for Huddersfield’s first team, and he put his side on the board after just seven minutes.

Hooker John Birkett took a scrum against the head, and Ramsden picked up from the base and forced his way over the line to open his, and Huddersfield’s account.

Winger Brad Gorman was next over the lines in the corner, and on the stroke of half-time a Tom van Rooyen break led to prop Alex Battye crossing the whitewash, both of which were converted by fly-half Tom Owen for a 19-0 lead.

The difference in fitness levels showed in the second half, as Huddersfield powered their way through a tiring defence.

Ramsden was soon through for his second before influential centre van Rooyen broke clear to set up Charlie Brook for his maiden try for the club, and then also released Ramsden for his hat trick.

Having set up three tries, van Rooyen deservedly scored himself, before Ramsden turned provider in a move which ended with Mason diving over. Replacement fly-half Ben Calverley took over the kicking duties and finished with four successful conversions, including adding the extras to Ramsden’s fourth and final try in the closing stages.
