A HAT TRICK of tries from centre Adam Ryder could not spare YMCA from defeat at Pocklington.

Despite a strong attacking display by the visitors they were eventually narrowly beaten 33-30.

Pocklington made a flying start when the ball was fed to left winger Scott, who managed to round the cover and score at the posts.

The home side’s goal-kicker Holborough was on target with his conversion to create a seven-point margin after only two minutes.

YM replied inside four minutes through left winger Chris Beevers, but kicking into the wind Jamie Marsden missed the conversion.

However, Marsden made amends with a sweetly struck penalty to put YM ahead.

They increased their lead just before the half hour when Wood and Wilson combined to go in at the corner. Again the wind had the beating of Marsden’s kick.

However, the home side went ahead after a series of mauls led to Pocklington’s back row forward Holborough forcing his way over from close in and his brother was on target with the conversion, but YM regained the lead before half time when Wilson again sent Ryder through for a try but the additional points went begging.

A second try for Holborough put Pocklington back in front on 56 minutes.

That lead was extended 10 minutes later when No8 Britland was on hand to crash over, again Holborough was on target with his conversion and the home side seemed to be out of sight when the goalkicker crossed for a try and added the goal soon after.

The visitors threw any remnants of caution to the wind and Stuart Morton broke through for a YM score to the right of the posts. Marsden added the extras and Ryder completed his hat trick, but Marsden’s missed kick left YM three points adrift.
