The Laund Hill ground was under a mountain of snow – even before yesterday’s second helping – and was postponed for a third time.
And that is particularly disappointing for coach Jamie Marsden after watching his side produce their best performance of the season last Saturday at North Ribblesdale.
“I know we’ve taken a lot of stick for the way things have gone this season, but I always believed we were capable of playing decent rugby from numbers 1 to 15, and against Ribblesdale we finally showed just what we are capable of doing,” said Marsden.
The 24-18 scoreline didn’t reflect our dominance because at time we destroyed them.
“It really is amazing what the addition of a couple of players can make in the pack.
“Alex Whittaker has brought a massive amount to the side as hooker, while Aussie Tom Torrance is very accomplished at No8 and moving Neil Walker to wing forward has at the same time, given him so much more freedom.
“As a result we are a lot steadier in the scrums, and Whittaker has revolutionised our line-outs, hitting Torrance at will, while also having the options of Kevin Hellawell and Walker to go to.
“Against North Ribb, we retained the ball, moved it wide and played with pace and in Adam Ryder we have one of the most destructive free-scoring wingers in the League.
“It is amazing what a win can do, and if we can continue to produce that sort of form for the remainder of the season, then I really believe we can grab another four or five wins. We may have left it too late, but we’re going to give it a go and see how many points we can rack up.
“We’ve got Ripon at home next week, which is very winnable, and then Wheatley Hills away the following week, and although they are top of the table, they lost 11-0 at Yarnbury the previous week, so I wouldn’t rule out getting a result there either.”
Although Marsden’s side will not be getting a run outside tomorrow, he is still hoping they may be able to do some work indoors – providing players get to Salendine Nook of course!
