HUDDERSFIELD completed a fantastic double over the weekend with back-to-back wins over Doncaster and Ben Rhydding which extended their lead at the top of the Yorkshire Premier Division to five points with a game in hand.

First up they met second-bottom side Doncaster III, and were always in control, Durrans and Hirst going close hitting the post and bar respectively before Courtney gave Huddersfield the lead when he pounced on a rebound.

In the second half Doncaster came back into the game as Huddersfield became careless with possession, but they soon extended their lead when a mazy run from Jimmy Swinden ended with a pass to Hirst who slotted past the keeper.

Captain Kelly then grabbed the game by the scruff of the neck, bossing midfield and after one of several solo runs, laid off to Hirst who netted, only to have the goal disallowed, and was then despatched to the sin bin for dissent.

Having 10 men only spurred Huddersfield on however, and Kelly finished off two more runs with two excellent strikes to make it 4-0.

And restored to full strength they ran riot with Durrans and Hirst getting the last two.

The following day they were at their very best as they dominated Ben Rhydding II to win 8-1.

Hirst opened the scoring from a Jimmy Swinden cross and Gregory smashed the ball home after a goalmouth scramble, and when Swinden picked out Hirst on a run, the latter calmly slotted home for a 3-0 interval lead.

Ben Rhydding had a short spell of pressure early in the second half and pulled a goal back, but Swinden capped a match-winning performance with two goals, one a stunning reverse stick shot into the roof of the net.

Two penalty flicks were converted by Peachey and Kelly, while Hirst completed his hat trick when he dinked past the keeper and tapped in from close range.

Team: Howarth, Peachey, Swinden (M), Hannam, Beatson, Kelly (R), Gregory, Swinden (J), Hirst, Courtney, Durrans, Kaye, Robertson, Austerberry.

Doncaster 0 Huddersfield III 8

THE club’s third string took their good form from the previous week to Doncaster and recorded their biggest win of the season.

They created a few early chances but were unable to find the back of the net, but always looked in control and after a Hindmarsh free hit, Gary Waterhouse showed a deft reverse touch to open the scoring.

At the other end Oli Durrant made several good saves to deny Doncaster before Huddersfield scored two goals in quick succession through Maddeford and Beaumont.

In the second half, Huddersfield put together some super hockey the ball being moved swiftly through midfield into attack.

Abbey scored the first of his two goals, while Beaumont added a second, Kullar finished off a counter-attack and Connell crashed one in from the edge of the D.

Huddersfield’s last and possibly best goal came from a Maddeford pass from one side of the field to the other which found Abbey free on the 25, he collected and struck a first time shot past the hapless Donny keeper.

Team: Durrant, Mills, Taylor, Hindmarsh, Waterhouse (S), Waterhouse (G), Kullar, Abbey, Swindells, Maddeford, Connell, Moscrop, Beaumont.

City of York VI 0 Huddersfield IV 2

HUDDERSFIELD arrived at York determined to halt the recent run of defeats and opened with five players in the starting line-up who could all double up as forwards.

And after limiting the opposition to long shots, the five-man attack led to Mathew Gardener putting Paul Golds through on goal, and he slotted the ball in to give Huddersfield the lead.

It was the only goal of the half, but they started off the second half where they left off and threatened to add to their tally.

There was a slight blip when Gurveer Birdie played a dead ball into the path of the York centre forward, but keeper Chris Bailley managed to thwart his effort and save his captain’s blushes!

Golds put the game beyond doubt when he fired in his second goal.

Team: Bailley, Birdi, Flavin, Hales, Barker, Pritchard, Shimmell, Blackburn, Golds, Parkes, Gardener, Clarke.

Lockwood Pk Ladies 3 Wakefield 0

THIS was an exciting clash between the first and second in the table, and both teams had chances in the opening 20 minutes.

But it was League-leaders Lockwood Park who struck the first blow when Dutton opened the scoring and added a second with a long-range effort before the interval.

In the second half Wakefield piled on the pressure, but Lockwood’s defence held firm, and Bath scored a third for the Lockwood side to seal a great win and keep them top of the division.
