YMCA officials are looking forward to a big event tomorrow with the official opening of their new £500,000 facilities.

The Salendine Nook amenity - headquarters of Huddersifeld YMCA Rugby Union Club - now includes a superb new changing rooms block which has been added on to the already impressive clubhouse.

The project already has the Rugby Football Union's official Seal of Approval.

"The build has basically been self-funded," explained YMCA secretary Michael Milne.

"We sold a small plot of land behind one of the soccer pitches, and that added to donations which went into the development fund, set up by the late Peter Ruddiman, has paid for the new extension.

"And builders McDonagh and Crampton have made a wonderful job which makes this a fantastic facility.

"We now have 10 changing rooms downstairs, while upstairs is a new gym, with a conference and aerobics room, board room, reception area and two more small changing rooms for the gym.

"And the way doors have been fitted downstairs means we can now partition the changing rooms into seniors, juniors and ladies if and when necessary."

YMCA president Kenneth Ling MBE, will officially unveil the new extension tomorrow, when guests also include the Mayor and Mayoress of Kirklees, Clr Donald Firth and Ann Haigh, and Town and Giants owner Ken Davy.
