HUDDERSFIELD RUFC’s Under 14 side tamed Sheffield Tigers in their first-ever match against the South Yorkshire side.

They got away to the perfect start, when Huddersfield won the first scrum against the head and Harry Woodhouse scored the first of his two tries.

But Sheffield hit back immediately, taking the ball from a line-out to score a converted try, which with the following conversion put them briefly in front.

Ben Dickinson restored Huddersfield’s lead with a converted try and Jason Bellanfante went in for another converted score as the home side led 19-7 at half-time.

Huddersfield made several substitutions at half-time to give everyone a game and the next two scores came from Sam Bourouh, Titus Gwaze setting him up for the second.

Tigers pulled another try back, but by now Huddersfield were well on top and Woodhouse grabbed his second try, converted by Ethan Marr, before Bourouh put a grubber-kick through for Bellanfante to notch his second of the day, again well converted by Marr.

The game was closer than the 43-12 scoreline suggests, and Tigers have been invited to take part in a New Year curtain-raiser before the Firsts tackle Sheffield in a National II North clash.
