HUDDERSFIELD YMCA Under 17s turned the tables on Rochdale with a 17-5 victory in a friendly at Laund Hill, having lost to them pre-season.

The match was hastily arranged after YM's Yorkshire Cup opponents Selby were unable to fulfil the second round clash.

The run-out gave the coaches a chance to re-shuffle the side with one or two absentees and full-back Gavin Stead moved up to outside centre where he scored two tries and added a conversion.

Josh Lumb took over the captaincy for the day from Sam Hodge, while Danny Moorhouse eased into the full-back role.

The scoreline did not reflect YM's superiority, but they did make hard work of it with some decisions with the ball in hand.

Adam Ryder scored the last try to secure the win.

YM's Under 17 squad now take a short break, visiting Lloret de Mar in Spain over Easter, where they are due to play against RC Sitges and another match to be confirmed.

Fund-raising efforts to pay for the Spanish tour concluded with a two-night X-factor-style concert at Laund Hill when virtually the entire squad took part in one form or another. And tribute was paid to all their supporters, and in particular team manager Lynne O'Brien.

* Huddersfield RUFC Under 13s impressive winning run came to an abrupt end at Roundhegians after a lacklustre display.

Huddersfield found themselves 17 points down in 17 minutes, before a late first-half try from Taras Santar gave them a lifeline. Roundhegians scored early in the second half, but Huddersfield fought back with tries from Jordan Barratt and Louie Cooper as they chased the game.

* Lockwood Park staged a mini tournament for Under 12s, with teams from Huddersfield, Old Brods, Ripon and YMCA taking part.

Luke Czerepaniak and Luke Johnson scored tries for YM against Ripon who hit back to equalise before an injury to Sam Wood resulted in an early end to the game. Huddersfield scored first in the next match against YM, and Old Brods won the final game.

* YM's Under 10s took part in an Under 10 tournament, where they lost to eventual winners Huddersfield 2-0 after beating Cleckheaton 4-0, Rishworth 5-1 and drawing 2-2 with Ripon.
