HUDDERSFIELD YMCA’S junior sides were all in action against teams from Cleckheaton when most of the victories went the way of the Laund Hill club.

The Under 13s were playing their first game of the season, and were quickly into their stride when Macaulay Robinson scored a try after just three minutes.

The visitors were putting all their training to good use with some good drives, rucks and mauls and fly-half Sam Wood soon went over for their second try, while flanker Josh Scholefield crossed for No3.

Playing down hill in the second half Luke Johnson drove over for YM’s next score, which was followed by two more Robinson touchdowns and finally a second for No8 Johnson who charged threequarters of the field to wrap up the scoring.

There were fine performances from scrum-halves Jake O’Hehir and Shaun Scaramuzza who shared the duties in each half and helped win 90% of the scrums, while controlling the drives in the 35-0 win.

The Under 10s also opened up with a win (5-0) also away at Cleckheaton, with Niall Bent scoring twice in the first half after good running from Arron Kelly and James Barnett.

Cleckheaton’s tackling was solid and halted a number of tryscoring chances.

But they were unable to prevent Myles Watson scoring a good individual effort in the second half.

Jack Pilcher was next to score following an interception.

Two Cleckheaton breaks were stopped by tackles from Bent and Watson before Euan Czerepaniak notched the final try.

The newly-formed Under 9s had plenty of support for their first game and, led by skipper Emma Smith, put up a good show before going down 7-4.

Greg Lewis and Jason Kershaw scored first-half tries after Cleckheaton had taken the lead with three, but they levelled in the second half when Shelley Denton scored a deserved try.

Lewis also added a second after Cleckheaton had broken clear to score further touchdowns to win the game.

The Under 8s played two games, losing the first 10-7 after tries from Sam Forrest-Ritchie, Jack Marshall and Jamie Howard, but won the second 7-6 with Alex Warburton grabbing four tries, while the Under 7s won 12-9 with tries from Dan Simpson, Daniel Brooksbank, Jake Rose and Elliott Darde-Whitehead.
