Scholes are champions of the Drakes League.

The talented young side lifted a first Byrom Shield title since 2009 with a seven-wicket win at Barkisland while their only challengers, Hoylandswaine, were beaten by eight wickets at Shepley.

It means the Premiership crown goes to Chapelgate with three matches to spare and with James Noble’s side having lost just one league game all season.

The celebrations are also in full swing at Armitage Bridge, where they have achieved promotion alongside Cawthorne from the Jedi Sports Championship.

And Rastrick have the champagne corks popping after winning the Cedar Court Conference in an outstanding campaign.

At Woodfield, Scholes showed why they’ve been the best and most consistent side all season under Noble.

Barkisland set off at 10 an over, but once Josh Brook got to work with his nagging inswing and sent Jamie Summerscales (41) and Tim Seifert (39) back to the pavilion, the rest of the order couldn’t cope.

Brook, the elder of the three brothers, finished with a magnificent haul of eight for 49 to put him joint top of the top-flight bowling ranks alongside Golcar’s Tim Welsford with 70 victims.

Brother Tom took the other two as Barkisland closed on 151 all out, which was revised to 146 after a rain break.

The result was never in doubt as Tom Chadwick hit a brisk 30, Pete Drysdale a solid half century and Tom Brook finished off the title chase in style with a towering six to send the Chapelgate faithful into rapture.

By then, news had filtered through that Shepley had toppled Swaine – so the pints delivered to the away changing room by the Barkisland club were so much the sweeter.

Swaine were dismissed for 111 with Shahzada Khan taking five for 33. Dan Wood hit 33 as Shepley reached 112.2.

At the bottom of the Premiership table, there was an incredible rain-rule tie between Skelmanthorpe and Slaithwaite which still leaves the battle for survival in the melting pot – although Broad Oak are now safe after beating Moorlands in another rain-affected game.

Slaithwaite posted 215-9 at Lidgett Lane with Alex Walker hitting 87 and Tuseif Arshad taking three for 50.

That total was revised to 199 because of the weather, and Skelmanthorpe were held agonisingly on 199-9, in which Dan Morgan hit 76 and Kiwi Dan Hill took five for 48.

Armitage Bridge, meanwhile, ensured they will be playing in the top flight next season with a 67-run win over Marsden.

Jaycob Curtling hit 48, Oli Huntington 38 and Andy Gledhill 30 as the Bridge put up an all-out total of 186.

Aussie Tom Joraslafsky was the best of the Marsden bowlers with four for 56 and then led the way with the bat, hitting 31.

But Danny Moorhouse picked up four for 16 and Jack Wadsworth three for 51 to end Colne Valley hopes at 119.

Liam Wiles hit a century as leaders Cawthorne were comfortable home winners against Linthwaite.

In the Cedar Court, Rastrick have been powering along all season and they ensured the title goes to Round Hill with a crushing 134-run win over home side Denby Dale.

Bradley Birkhead hit 95 in the Rastrick total of 277-6, while skipper Oli Pearson picked up four for 39 and Jacob Waterson three for seven to leave Dale 143 all out.
