Scholes remain the only team with a 100% record in the top flight and hold an early five-point lead at the top of the Drakes League Premiership.

They maintained their solid start with victory in testing conditions at Kirkburton, where some solid batting contributions and naggingly accurate bowling did the trick.

Pete Drysdale anchored the Scholes innings of 234-4, batting through for 75 not out after his 90 at Delph the previous day, and his sensible knock in a 120-run partnership with James Noble (70) – after Tom Chadwick had gone for 33 – enabled Adam France to come in at the end and hit a rapid 40 not out.

Kirkburton skipper Andy Smith batted well at the top of the home order for 31, but as had been proven in the Scholes innings, it wasn’t easy to get the ball away.

Scholes skipper Tom Brook produced his third successive five-wicket haul of the Premiership season – five for 71 from 23 overs – and with France claiming three for 54 from 14 to complement a sound two-wicket contribution from teenager Louis Brook at the other end (two for 26 from nine), Burton fell behind the rate.

Tom Burkinshaw produced some big hits and sensible running to record a half century towards the end, sharing a dogged partnership with Mo Khan, but the home side were eventually out for 160.

Hoylandswaine are in second place after recovering from 33-6 to knock off 111 at Golcar and claim six points.

Yasir Abbas, who put the skids under Honley the previous day, was the star of the show for Swaine, taking six for 40 as Golcar struggled to add much to the 30 of opener Niall Lockley and 28 not out from Craig Ruscoe.

Abbas then got to work with the bat when the Haigh Lane side were in trouble, and he finished 53 not out in a seven wicket win despite the efforts of Will Hinchliffe with four for 43 and Andy Alsop with three for 39.

Jamshad Ahmad top scored with 56 and Arron Lilley had 50, but it was Craig Fletcher with a really good 52 not out who guided Delph to a four-wicket victory at home to Elland.

Elland had posted 205-8 thanks to 53 from Fahid Rehman, 34 from Jonathan Das and 33 from Wasim Qasim.

Fletcher had five for 77 to add to his winning contribution with the bat, while Jack Hendy was the pick of the Elland bowling with four for 58.

Barkisland recovered from their drubbing at Shepley to record a solid win at Holmfirth after posting 249-7 in which Aussie LJ Brown hit a fine 131.

Darren Robinson added 53 while Sam Denton – having taken five for 88 – then hit 80 not out, but Holmfirth were held at 166-7.

Eddie Wilson (76no) and Max Joice (68no) shared a solid unbroken stand to lead Honley to 230-3 against Shelley at Far End Lane, after skipper Simon Kelly (46) and Richard Jakeman (32) had given them a solid start.

Skipper Greg Wadsworth led the Shelley reply with 34 and Akhlaq Ahmed 33 but they were always behind the clock and were dismissed for 139.

Shepley’s 100% start was ended by Skelmanthorpe, who had Perth-based Aussie Tom Beaton to thank for 73 not out in chasing down a target of 170-9.

Josh Ardron top scored with 71 for the champions and Liam Wiles hit 38, but spinner Josh Ingham bowled through to take five for 54 to make sure Skelmanthorpe were far from out of the equation.

Opener Tim Sykes hit 51 and with Beaton – from the Mount Lawley club and a former Australia Under 19 captain – in form, Skelmanthorpe were never in trouble and went through to an eight-wicket victory for five points.

Meltham had a morale-boosting first win of the season at Slaithwaite.

Jack Hinchliffe took a magnificent five for 22 and Vinod Minhas three for 26 to dismiss Slaithwaite for just 98.

Then Minhas top scored with 49 as Meltham got home for the loss of five wickets.
