There were a couple of sensational individual performances as the Drakes Huddersfield League kicked into action.

Kirkburton’s EU-qualifed Australian batsman Sam Evans smashed 175 not out in their rain-rule victory at Hoylandswaine in the Premiership.

And in the Jedi Sports Championship, Pakistani bowler Adnan Ghani took all 10 wickets for Denby in their victory at Marsden.

The 21-year-old Evans, who plays first grade in Perth, announced his arrival in the Drakes with some wonderful and destructive strokeplay at Haigh Lane.

His effort carried Craig Fletcher’s side to 302-8 off their 50 overs, and they added 151 of those in the final 17 overs.

Evans reached 50 off 57 balls in 80 minutes and went to his ton off 89 balls (126mins) with 12 fours and five sixes.

His 150 came off 126 balls in 174 minutes, including 18 fours and six sixes.

When the innings closed, his 175 not out had come off 135 balls in three hours and 10 minutes, including 20 fours and eight sixes.

Swaine reached 45-0 in nine overs and were 141-4 at the half-way stage.

Then, after interruption and chasing a revised 220 total, the home side were 189-4 off 32 overs when bad light stopped play.

At Hemplow, Ghani claimed all 10 Marsden wickets, with the home side skittled for 55 in just 18.3 overs by the 31-year-old opener from Attock in Pakistan.

Anurag Bhope was the only Marsden man into double figures with 19 as Ghani ran through the order, clean bowling six, having two lbw and the other two caught.

Don Bandula, at the other end, bowled nine overs at a cost of 28 but failed to pick up a wicket as Ghani finished with the tremendous figures of 10 for 23 off 9.3 overs, which included two maidens.

In reply, Denby coased to a 10-wicket victory thanks to 26 not out from Farham Hussain and 30 not out from ex-Skelmanthorpe man Sarfraz Ahmed.

Back in the Premiership, Delph scored a comfortable home victory against Golcar, bowling out the visitors for 116 with Arron Lilley picking up three for 23.

Sri Lankan Upul Bandara top scored for Golcar with 44. Opener Chris Laker ensured Delph had no problem chasing it down with an undefeated 56.

Michael Kitson hit 54 as Skelmanthorpe put up a winning 231-9 at Elland.

Benji Birkhead replied with 86 not out, but Elland were dismissed for 183, Shahzada Khan and Amar Rashid taking four wickets apiece.

Scholes scraped home by two wickets after bowling out visitors Barkisland for 138 – Josh Brook taking four wickets and Kiwi Tom MacRury three.

MacRury then hit a vital 43 but, as wickets tumbled, it was 15-year-old James Wharton who guided the Champions home, with the help of a couple of lusty blows from Louis Brook.

In the Championship, Slaithwaite had an excellent eight-run win over Moorlands.

Slaithwaite totalled 203-5 with Chris Coleman 61 not out. Michael Padgett took four of the wickets.

Moorlands were bowled out for 195 in reply, with Daniel Rushworth taking five for 48.
