I reckon this international break has come at just the right time for our club.

After a hectic start to the season, the arrival of the new manager and a very good week of gathering points, it will give everyone time to take stock and assess exactly where we are.

It was important to get those wins under our belt against Millwall at home and Wolves down at Molineux – a victory which deservedly got us the performance of the week award in the Championship.

It’s amazing how much confidence those results brought to the club and, after the terrific 0-0 draw at Blackburn on Saturday, everyone is in a very positive mood.

People are already starting to look up the table rather than behind us and I was always confident we would turn things around.

That’s because we have a very good manager in Chris Powell, someone who is respected throughout the game, an excellent backroom staff who have all the knowledge and experience you could want and, most importantly, a good squad of players.

The new boss has acknowledged already that he has flexibility in the systems he wants to play, and Grant Holt is already proving a great loan signing for the club – someone who can make a big difference during his time here.

We might be missing James Vaughan right now, and that’s a massive shame both for him and for the club, but Grant made an immediate impact when he went on against Millwall and then showed in that great win at Wolves that he can play up front on his own.

Everyone has been saying that we’ve been crying out for a big man up front and, when you have someone who can provide the foil for Nahki Wells in a two – like on Saturday – and also do the solo role, then what more can you ask?

Chris has been here only a couple of weeks as boss and, in that time, most new managers would still be getting to know the names of their players, but he has been out to matches, identified the ideal loan signing and, more importantly, persuaded him to come to the John Smith’s Stadium.

On top of that, he has impressed the fans with his tactical awareness and willingness to make bold changes, and I feel we have a lot to look forward to.

It’s great to have a week’s break, though, before our next two home matches, and I’m sure Chris will use it to the best advantage.
