Former Huddersfield Town striker Dale Tempest says his old club must make the John Smith’s Stadium home sweet home.

Tempest – who had two seasons with Town in the mid-1980s and is now Public Relations Director of Football League sponsors Skybet – is delighted for manager Chris Powell and the players they now have a win under their belt.

But he reckons they must back up that result in no uncertain manner on home soil against Bolton Wanderers next and then Nottingham Forest on Thursday.

“It was fantastic for Town to get the three points at Charlton with two very good goals from Harry Bunn and Emyr Huws,” said Tempest, who started out at Fulham and also played at Gillingham, Colchester and Lokeren before going out to Hong Kong.

“Hopefully the win will be the catalyst the club need to kick on and pull themselves away from the bottom reaches of the Championship table.

“There are no ‘gimmes’ in this Championship, especially when you are down towards the bottom.

“But Town’s huge strength over the years has always been their home form – and it needs to be again.

“It’s at the John Smith’s Stadium where they need to be picking up three points – starting against Bolton and then, hopefully, against Forest as well.

“Away points are valuable, sure, but they are the icing on the cake.

“Home form is what keeps you in the division.”
