Hi, it’s Luke here.

And I have to admit it’s tough knowing exactly what to say at the moment.

Doing this column last season was an absolute breeze.

We were picking up wins on an almost weekly basis and everyone constantly had a smile on their face. As a result, it felt comfortable revealing some of the silliness within the camp.

But that silliness really is in short supply right now, because we’ve got the serious matter of trying to rediscover our best form to think about.

It would be wrong to say everyone’s completely despondent, because if we feel like that we’ll never get out of the hole we currently find ourselves in. We’ve still got to keep our heads up, despite the way things have been going, as that’s the way things will start to turn in our favour again. And we know it will.

As I said, this time last year we were winning games almost every week, and this is virtually the same squad. In fact, with the signings we’ve made, we do feel as a group that it’s even stronger!

That’s something we don’t intend to forget, and we know that when we get back to the way we were playing in 2013 everything will fall into place.

And as history has shown, sides can make shaky starts and go on to achieve something special.

Just look at Leeds Rhinos, who were being written off a couple of years ago and went on to win the competition.

They had a quality squad, stuck together and eventually reaped the rewards. They managed it, so why can’t we? We’ve clearly got time on our side to put things right, and we know it’s only a case of having to out little things right rather than major ones.

As I said earlier, we know we are a good team.

Although we’ve only won a couple of games so far this season, we drew against Hull KR when we deserved to win, we drew against Leeds when we deserved to win, and then everyone saw what happened when we played unbeaten leaders Saints in the Challenge Cup last weekend – we deserved to win that one, but the luck was totally against us.

Just think how different the talk would have been if those three results had gone in our favour!

But they didn’t, and it’s up to us to do something about it.

I don’t want to make excuses, but I do feel there was a bit of an emotional hangover from the Saints game with the way we started at Hull the other night.

We conceded a couple of really poor tries and just couldn’t get out of our rut, even though we did go on and have a couple of positive spells.

We also weren’t helped by the short turn-around. Sunday to Thursday gave us hardly any time at all to work on the areas that still needed to be improved.
