Steve Whitwam will be aiming to keep Golcar’s excellent run of form going at Kirkburton tomorrow.

The Colne Valley side have catapulted themselves up the Drakes League Premiership on the back of a string of successive victories.

Unbeaten for the last five weeks, the Swallow Lane men – who now include experienced Louis Aspeling – are up to fourth in the table and just a point behind third-placed Shepley as they head to Riley Lane.

Skipper Whitwam – or Cobber as he is universally known – has been one of the best all-rounders in the League for a decade and more and is again leading by example.

Whitwam has 434 runs to his name, but it’s his bowling which has come to the fore in these wet conditions, and he is now the fourth highest wicket-taker in the League with 36 – and they’ve come at an average of just 11.28.

Upul Bandara and Will Hinchliffe aren’t far behind with 28 and 27 wickets respectively, and Sri Lankan Bandara is also just one run short of 400 (underlining the side’s all-round talent).

James Howson is next in the batting list with 327, while Niall Lockley has 290.
