Talismanic second row Austen Thompson is one of half a dozen championship-winning pack men to re-sign for Huddersfield Rugby Union Club.

Just a week after head coach Gareth Lewis put pen to paper on his own Lockwood Park deal for next season, the head coach has quickly moved to secure the engine room for the National II North campaign.

Big-man Thompson was one of the outstanding performers in Huddersfield’s unbeaten 2016-17 campaign and will be wearing Huddersfield colours for a fourth successive season.

Even better news for Lewis is that the 2014-15 Player of the Season will be joined by his fierce compatriot, second row and back row option Adam Malthouse.

They are two real powerhouses for the club.

Joining those two are Yorkshire County duo Francis Entressengle and Ben Morrill, who bring real quality in the hooker position and to the front row.

And after an outstanding National III season, Barkisland cricketer Callum Thompson will be looking to test himself in the league above.

The final pack man for now who has penned a new deal is former Doncaster Knights and Hull tight head prop Adam Tamanis, who is now fully recovered following an injury which curtailed his season.

“We are delighted these lads from the current championship-winning side have re-signed for next season,” admitted Lewis, who has been working tirelessly with management team Mike Baggs and Simon Anderson to put together the squad.

“This will be what we hope will be the first such announcement of several over the coming days and weeks regarding next season’s squad, and discussions are very much ongoing with current and new players.”
