Underdogs Golcar Con lifted the Lockwood Private Hire Trophy by beating favourites Walkers Hounds 3-0 at Lepton Highlanders.

The victory was deserved with the victors showing greater hunger.

Hounds lacked their usual fluency and when they did threaten in attack the Golcar rearguard and keeper Paul Crossley were resolute – their defence well-marshalled by Joe Davies and James McAllister.

Golcar led on 20 minutes through man-of-the-match Aaron Baxter, who was set up by Luke Robertson.

Hounds’ Jimmy Meadows had some good chances, but he was were thwarted by Crossley or was just wide of the mark.

Hounds’ striker Meadows was still creating chances, with fellow players Dan Stocker and Nicky Shaw asking a lot of questions of the Golcar defence.

However, Golcar were given too much time and space and on 87 minutes Danny Murray made it 2-0 when he unleashed a 20 yard unstoppable shot.

Hounds had pushed their keeper Pierce Walker in attack for the last few minutes, but to no avail and in the last minute Elliot Chambers completed the scoring for Golcar with a delightful chip over Walker.

The trophies were presented by League President and Trophies sponsor Nicci Harrison and the officials were referee Brian Whitaker and assistants Steve Rushworth and Greg Taylor.

A late Steven Kenworthy goal was needed to earn AFC Emley a 1-1 draw at home to Hallam FC on the final day of the season.

The result sees Emley finish the season in fifth place in the Northern Counties East League’s first division, a new high for the club since reformation back in 2005.

Kenworthy scored from a tight angle with a looping effort that nestled in the bottom corner, with only minutes remaining on the clock.

Michael Blythen had earlier given the visitors the lead, as he capitalised on a defensive error to score from the edge of the six yard box.

Honley, second in Division Two of the West Riding County Amateur League, notched an impressive 3-1 win away at Ovenden WR Reserves.

Ovenden opened the scoring on 55 minutes after a through ball gave Josh Brown a run on goal and he tucked his shot across Honley keeper Jordan Robinson.

Honley didn’t take long to responded as an Oliver Willitts shot was blocked by a defender, but the ball ran for his brother Tom who forced it home through the keeper’s legs.

After 70 minutes Honley took the lead when a quick free kick found John Elliott who challenged with the keeper and, as the ball dropped, Elliott was quickest to respond and he poked the ball over the line.

The game was wrapped up eight minutes from time when Ben Lindley did well to win the ball and after a run down the right wing he swung over a pin-point cross that produced a simple tap-in for Dylan Brett.
