Young substitute Katie Lockwood grabbed a comeback winner for Town Ladies as they won their first ever FA Women’s Premier League match at Blackburn Rovers.
She pounce two minutes from time to slot past the advancing keeper after being played in by Emily Heckler to secure a 3-2 success ahead of next Sunday’s away trip to Newcastle United in the FAWPL League Cup (2pm).
Nervous to start with, Town went behind on 35 minutes and they were two down shortly before half time.
They hit back immediately, however, when skipper Kate Mallin played a precision pass for Heckler to cut inside and score.
Town came out the stronger side in the second period, taking control of midfield as the defence restricted Blackburn to a couple of long-range strikes acrobatically saved by player of the match keeper Laura Carter.
Town deservedly levelled on 77 minutes after a strong Katie Nutter tackle in midfield released Debbie Hastings down the right, and she pulled the ball back for Heckler to finish.
Everything was then set up for Lockwood to win it in a dramatic finale.
