SCISSETT Youth Band is holding its 30th anniversary concert at St Paul’s Hall in Huddersfield tomorrow.

What makes this all the more remarkable is that the band has not only survived but thrived over three decades despite having no sponsorship and raising all its funds itself.

The band was started by Pat France, who will be among the guests at this celebratory concert along with the Mayor of Kirklees, Clr Karam Hussain.

Tomorrow the band, whose players are aged between 10 and 18, will be conducted by their musical director, Simon Mansfield. This band of young brass players rehearses every Thursday night at Shelley Methodist Hall.

Their guests at tomorrow’s concert will be near neighbours, the Skelmanthorpe B Band conducted by its musical director, Philip Garlick.

Soon after the concert, the Youth Band will set off on a four day tour of Volkenburg, Holland, where they will play at various events.

Join them tomorrow and hear what the talented young musicians of the future have to offer and if you are the right age, join them. The band say that they welcome new players, supporters and would love to have the support of a sponsor.

The concert starts at 7.30pm and tickets are £5.
