THE Lawrence Batley Theatre is offering budding actors and actresses of all ages the opportunity to tread the boards at a series of drama workshops.
The newly-formed Open Access Drama Group meets fortnightly at the theatre.
It is led by professionals Tim Burton and Laura Ainscow and was the brainchild of youth theatre director Madeleine Frost.
Madeleine introduced the workshops as a way of encouraging people from all walks of life to learn the acting trade.
She said: “We wanted to create an opportunity for people to get involved. We had a fantastic response to the first session on January 15.
“We’ve got some semi-professional/community actors as well as people who have never done anything like it before.
“There are a couple of mums and daughters and a whole family. We’ve got all ages.
“Some mums said they were always taking their children to classes for various things, so they had decided to do something themselves.’’
It’s hoped that by the end of the first term the students will be ready to give a performance for family and friends.
Madeleine is also hoping that the drama group will join forces with the writers’ group that also meets at the theatre.
“It would be great if they could get together and collaborate on something,’’ she said.
