SKELMANTHORPE Band has never been at the back of the queue when it comes to organising big name concerts at Huddersfield Town Hall; and 2008 is no exception.
But this year the mantle of staging an event has been passed to its B Band, newly promoted to the Third Section.
They, along with their big brothers in the Senior Band, will also be competing in the National Brass Band Finals in Harrogate in September, having come second in the Yorkshire Regional Finals in March.
The Senior Band won the First Section Regional Finals and from next year will again play in the Championship Section.
Skelmanthorpe B Band has, therefore, much to celebrate and it will do this by fronting a major concert at the Town Hall on Saturday, June 7, with guest star Andrew Whyment.
Coronation Street will of course know him as loveable rogue Kirk Sutherland, but there is another side to him.
He was the runner-up in the Soap Star Superstar competition, when his voice greatly impressed the judges.
He will perform both individually and in a joint item with the band.
Much of the programme of music will be ‘easy on the ear’, culminating with a Proms-style finale.
You do not even need to bring your own flag; they will be provided with the programme, though of course if you have your own special favourite, bring it to wave!
The concert starts at 7.30.Tickets, £5-£10 are available from Kirklees booking offices and 01484 862998.
