IT IS A musical partnership that has packed concert halls and delighted audiences.
Now this winning combination of world-renowned concert pianist John Lill and The Manchester Camerata is back to thrill Kirklees audiences with a concert at Dewsbury Town Hall on Thursday.
It is three years since the Camerata last appeared in the concert season in a baroque masters’ evening.
For this latest performance the Camerata will share the stage with Lill, who is acclaimed as a leading interpreter of Beethoven.
In recent years orchestra and soloist have forged an outstanding musical partnership, performing all the Beethoven piano concertos to full houses.
Thursday’s concert will feature two Beethoven masterpieces, the Second Piano Concerto and the Seventh Symphony. They span a 17- year period in the composer’s career and which, for many, sum up his genius.
Add to this powerhouse of a pairing Mendelssohn’s delightful overture The Fair Melusina and Dewsbury’s Town Hall is in for a cracker of a concert.
Lill’s talent emerged at an early age.
He was nine when he gave his first piano recital and since then his career has taken him to more than 50 countries, both as a recitalist and as a soloist with the world’s greatest orchestras.
He has performed the complete Beethoven Sonata cycle on several occasions in the UK, USA and Japan.
His recent recording of the complete Beethoven Bagatelles and Piano Concertos is available on the Chandos label.
The Camerata will be conducted by its music director Douglas Boyd who is also currently Artistic Partner of Saint Paul Chamber Orchestra in Minnesota, and Principal Guest Conductor of City of London Sinfonia.
His recordings as a conductor with Manchester Camerata of Beethoven Symphonies No.2 and No.5 received universal critical acclaim.
For those who want to find out more about the evening’s performance there will be a pre-concert talk at 6.40pm. The concert itself begins at 7.30pm.
