ART WORK by members of the Kirklees PALS (Practice Active Leisure Scheme) is on show at the John Smith’s Stadium in Huddersfield.

Many of the works are by people who had never drawn or painted before joining the scheme.

“They had certainly never exhibited,” said Tom King, who runs the PALS art group with fellow artist Barry Reigate.

This will be the fifth PALS Art Exhibition and will show 60 works in watercolours and acrylics by the 30 or so members of the group.

PALS is the council’s referral programme designed to improve health through regular physical exercise.

Tom and Barry started their art classes to give PALS members another way of boosting their well being through a creative and relaxing hobby.

The art group meets on Monday mornings at the central library in Princess Alexandra Walk.

Their exhibition, which opened on Monday and runs until December 7, is being staged in the reception area of the pool and gym at the stadium off Leeds Road.

New members, of all standards, are always welcome. There is no charge to take part.

Members provide their own materials although newcomers will be loaned materials to begin with. For further information contact Tom King, tel: 01924 494680.
