OVER 200 pieces of work by members of Dewsbury Arts Group are on show in one of the group’s biggest ever exhibitions.

The show runs at Dewsbury Town Hall until July 17 from 11am to 4pm (except Sunday) and covers a wide range of subjects.

This year’s featured artist is Thornhill painter David J Martin who works in both watercolour and oils.

His landscape work, particularly of the Yorkshire coast, is highly thought of, as are his paintings of major buildings of the Dewsbury and Batley area.

The local area is represented too by the oil paintings of Malcolm Jones and the gouache paintings of Bruce Mulcahy, while John A Hartley and Judith Rowbottom both contribute work with Yorkshire influences.

Watercolour is well covered in work by Cynthia Guest, Alec Jackson, Richard Roads, Barrie Smith and Sheridan Wardell.

Ken Beaumont and Andrew J Bennett are both showing self portraits alongside landscape paintings, and there is fine drawing by Ivor Westwood and John Squires.

Karen Stansfield and Roger Gardner demonstrate their print skills and Mike Smith exhibits lino-cuts.

Fabric and textile work is displayed by Lesley Bohanna, Vivienne Brown, Pam Curry, Susan King and Shirley Ross.

Photographic pieces by Mark Curry and Lucy Martin stand well with the realism of Jan Farthing's paintings and Keith Smith's delicate collage.

The art of painting is represented by the work of Mollie Armitage, Beryl Conroy, Cora Nowell and Mary Follows, while the highly individual compositions of Dennis Palmer have a strong cubist link. Cubism is apparent also in one of Josie Barraclough's striking paintings.

Damian Clark shows brooding dark-skied landscapes; Julia Keates offers powerful abstracts; David Wood typical landscapes; Jo Slater, a large metallic semi-abstract composition; while the show also introduces the sculptural work of Alexander Sasin.
