A rare opportunity to hear young singers in concert with one of the area’s most respected male voice choirs is on offer tomorrow evening.

The ‘100 Voices in Harmony’ event in Batley, featuring both the award-winning Huddersfield Choral Junior Choirs and Gledholt Male Voice Choir, promises a wide-ranging blend of youthful and mature voices as the singers tackle a programme with something to suit everyone.

From musical theatre to Disney songs, the choirs will be accompanied by Jane Robertson, a talented musician who supports the training of the young people.

Susan Wilkinson, musical director of both the choirs taking part, says the concert will feature singers aged from seven to 70. “It’s not often you hear such a range of ages and voices singing together,” she said.

Huddersfield Choral Junior Choirs are famed for their performances and have been award-winners at many music festivals. They have performed on Songs of Praise and at the Festival of Music for Youth in London, as well as appearing alongside the parent choir, Huddersfield Choral Society.

Gledholt Male Voice Choir is also a high-flyer - having appeared at the International Festival of Male Voice Choirs in Cornwall and taking second place in the highly-contested male voice class at this year’s Mrs Sunderland Music Festival.

Tickets for the concert in Central Methodist Church, Batley, are £7, with concessions. Doors open at 6.30pm.
