The concert series at Salendine Nook continues with a brass and voices event.

The brass is provided by the Prince Bishops Brass Ensemble from the North East. The voices are from a little nearer home, the Halifax Square Chapel Cube Choir.

These two groups share the billing for a concert at Salendine Nook Baptist Church on Saturday, March 8 at 7.30pm.

The brass ensemble was formed by a group of brass playing friends who would meet each other whilst playing at various locations around the North.

The line up of instruments is two trumpets, French horn, trombone and tuba. The quartet’s repertoire ranges fom Renaissance brass to classical and upbeat jazz and swing.

The group, based in Durham, comes recommended by the former Lindley Band conductor, Neil Jowett.

The Square Chapel Cube Choir began less than two years ago. It is a mixed voice choir of over 50s which started as an outreach project.

The idea was that it should bring people together and increase social opportunities. It’s certainly done that.

Musical director Caroline Bradley teaches music and clarinet and run choirs around the area.

The choir’s accompanist is retired headteacher Gwyneth Crawley.

“We had to go all the way to France to meet each other!” said Caroline.

“I lived there and she holidayed there for half the year and played for a local choir. The rest is history.”
