There are some classical treats in store at Huddersfield University next week.

On Monday a concert at St Paul’s Hall will feature the university’s orchestra and soloists.

It starts at 7.30pm and the programme includes student soloists Adam Greenhalgh (piano), Sabina Raisin-Fielder (soprano, alto, and tenor saxophones), Frances Kay (performance artist), Roland Mander (piano) and university pianist-in-residence Jonathan Fisher.

They will perform works of Olivier Messiaen, Andy Scott and Maurice Ravel.

On Tuesday at 1.15pm the university’s chamber choir will perform in St Paul’s Hall. The repertoire will feature a sequence of contemporary songs setting texts that range from graffiti and slogans to blog quotes and overheard gossip interspersed with freedom songs from South Africa and Renaissance polyphony painting a picture in sound of the conflicts and complexity of modern urban life.

A concert called Huddersfield Mix next Thursday at 1.15pm in St Paul’s Hall will feature some of the best talent among student performers and composers from the university’s music and music technology course.

After a break for exams there will be the annual Summer Showcase celebration during the week of June 16. More details here.
