There's a treat in store next week when the Cliffites stage Dick Whittington at Birchencliffe.

The show opens on Tuesday (February 25) and has a real community feel as its cast is packed with local families and familiar faces.

Stephanie Potts, of Lindley, has written the show and also plays the role of the nasty Queen Rat.

She’s typical of the family feel to the production as her mum, Donna Morgan is the show’s director and her dad, Stephen Morgan, plays Sarah The Cook.

Continuing the family factor are Tim Potter, who plays one half of the ratty duo, Sharkey and Bones and alongside him on stage are his daughters Hannah and Katie. It’s Katie who will be playing Tommy the Cat.

Then there are the Simpsons - Kenny and his daughter Madeleine, the Faircloughs - Audrey and daughter Amber, plus sisters, Katie and Isabelle Wignall and Lesley Green and Suzie Blackburn.

Matthew Wilson from Birkby takes the title role of Dick Whittington and making welcome returns are Tracey Kaye as the Fairy, Ian Woodcock as the Alderman and John Green as the Captain.

Greenhead College student Thomas Ramsden plays Idle Jack.

The junior chorus is made up of children from many of the local schools including Lindley and Reinwood and the show also features dancers from the Dance Arena Ballet and Stage School.

Performances are at Birchencliffe Community Centre from February 25 to March 1 at 7.15pm with a Saturday matinee at 2.15pm.

Proceeds from ticket sales on Tuesday evening are going to The Joseph Salmon Trust.
