The 37th annual Huddersfield Contemporary Music Festival reaches its finale this weekend.

Among those performing tomorrow and on Sunday are the internationally-acclaimed BBC Scottish Symphony Orchestra and equally-renowned Arditti Quartet.

There have been scores of UK and world premieres at this year’s festival. Saturday sees premieres of two works at Huddersfield Town Hall - Hèctor Parra’s L’absència and James Dillon’s Physis I & II. Dillon is the 2014 festival’s composer in residence and has had four concerts devoted to his work. Physis I & II, commissioned by the Orchestre de Paris, will be heard alongside a performance of Dillon’s piano concerto Andromeda by soloist Noriko Kawai. Such has been the demand for tickets that discounted seats are now sold out. There are two further Dillon concerts with the Arditti Quartet on Sunday and a talk by the composer.

A late performance in The Loft @ Bates Mill on Saturday will showcase the Carlos Casas’ installation Avalanche II with an eclectic mix of instruments - from a glass harmonica and vibraphone to Japanese transverse flutes and violin.

Sunday morning will see a free session at the Phipps Hall, of particular interest to families with young children, on lullabies from around the world. It will be led by vocalist Supriya Nagarajan and sound artist Duncan Chapman. Email Sarah McWatt at s.mcwatt@hud.ac.uk or call 01484 471 116 to reserve a place.
