Folk favourites Belinda O’Hooley and Heidi Tidow launch their new album in Marsden next month.

The acclaimed contemporary folk will be at the Mechanics Hall on March 8 with a live concert to launch the album, The Hum.

The concert is being promoted by Marsden-based Mikron Theatre Company and this partnership could just be the start of a longer-term relationship between the two.

Mikron Theatre Company’s artistic director, Marianne McNamara said: “In 2012 Mikron was part of The Luddite Link, a collective of organisations commemorating the bi-centenary of the Yorkshire Luddite uprisings.

“We first saw O’Hooley and Tidow at a concert as part of these commemorations.

“I fell in love with their music immediately and was struck by some of the similarities with Mikron’s work,” she said.

“The storytelling in their music is beautiful and, like our work, often tells the stories of ordinary people. So when they asked us to partner with them to launch their new album, we jumped at the chance”.

Now the folk duo and Mikron are exploring the possibility of working together to create a new performance based on the life of Anne Lister of Shibden Hall.

At the moment there are few details, but one thing is for sure; a partnership like this could produce something special.

Since the release of their second album, The Fragile, Golcar-based Belinda and Heidi have been recognised as one of the strongest songwriting partnerships on the contemporary folk scene.

The concert starts at 8.00pm. Tickets on www.mikron.org.uk or from 01484 843701.
