The  musical Guys and Dolls is in its 64th year and yet shows no sign of being put into retirement.

It is still being produced on Broadway and in the West End, and is about to be staged by Huddersfield Amateur Operatic Society at the Lawrence Batley Theatre.

At the helm of the production is musical director Gordon Balmforth, who was also the musical director 26 years ago when Guys and Dolls was last performed by the company. This time round he’s leading an all-new cast, including several new society members.

The show, at the Lawrence Batley Theatre from November 4 to 8, tells the story of two love affairs against a backdrop of Manhattan gambling dens and night clubs.

Since its premier on Broadway in 1950 it has become a favourite of both professional and amateur companies and audiences alike.

Directing the amateurs’ production is David Fletcher, who has headed the last few shows. The choreographer, Huddersfield dance teacher Joanne Perkins, however, is new to the society.

Former professional performer Sonya Morris, who now manages the Halifax Dance Academy, first appeared with HAOS last year and is back in the leading role of Sarah Brown; while Michele Stevenson, who has appeared on a number of amateur stages in the region is making her first appearance in Huddersfield as Miss Adelaide.

Michele has been in Guys and Dolls once before, back in 1995, when it became her ambition to take this leading role.

Tickets for the show are £5 to £18 from www.thelbt.org or 01484 223 200.
