A comedian in the mould of the late, great Tommy Cooper and a withering comedy critic turned performer are the penultimate line-up for the Lawrence Batley Theatre’s Comedy Cellar series.

Canadian Wes Zaharuk, runner-up on America’s Funniest People and five-star reviewed act at the Edinburgh Fringe, joins Scottish comedian and journalist Fern Brady on Thursday, November 13.

Their styles of humour could not be more different – with Wes using props, classic one-liners, and visual gags and Fern relying on caustic, observational wit.

Wes is famed on the comedy circuit for the way he works routines around power tools, bananas and film noir, with a madcap tendency.

Fern, whose list of appearances on shows such as 8 Out of 10 Cats, Newsnight and Stewart Lee’s Alternative Comedy Experience, betray an interest in both showbiz and more serious topics such as welfare reform and the under-representation of women in comedy, is also a regular writer for The Guardian.

The November Comedy Cellar event starts at 8pm in the Syngenta Cellar. Tickets are from £7 to £9 from 01484 430528 www.thelbt.org
