Two comedy heavyweights are set to tread the boards at Leeds Grand Theatre as award-winning musical The Producers embarks on a UK tour.

Manchester comic Jason Manford and Geordie surrealist Ross Noble have joined the cast of the Tony-winning comedy, due to visit Leeds for a six-night run in June next year.

Based on Mel Brooks's Oscar-winning movie, The Producers took Broadway and the West End by storm, bagging 12 Tony Awards and three Olivier Awards.

The outrageous musical follows the fortunes (and misfortunes) of New York producer Max Bialystock, who recruits downtrodden accountant Leo Bloom to help him pull off Broadway's greatest scam.

Together they aim to produce the worst show ever and run away to Rio with millions, but they learn that show business can always find a way to kick you in the teeth!

Jason Manford will take the roll of accountant Leo Bloom, while Ross Noble joins the cast as Franz Liebkind — the short fused, carrier pigeon-keeping former Nazi, brought on board by the producers to help them in their plot.

Featuring a riotous mix of eccentric characters and classic song Springtime For Hitler, The Producers is billed as the funniest Broadway musical of all time.

Ross said: "I am very excited about appearing in The Producers . I am a huge fan of the show and for anyone who loves comedy, the chance to perform the work of Mel Brooks is amazing!"

Jason Manford added: "Ross is one of the most exciting and inventive comedians the UK has produced, he is one of those rare breed of comics who simply has funny bones. It's a genius bit of casting!"

The Producers is at Leeds Grand Theatre from Monday June 8 to Saturday June 13.

Tickets are on sale, priced from £18.50 to £40.
