The nostalgic and iconic musical White Christmas will open the festive season at the West Yorkshire Playhouse at the end of the month.

With a fresh orchestration of the famous Irving Berlin score, the production features West End actors Darren Day, Oliver Tompsett, Halifax-born Emma Williams and Holly Dale Spencer.

Adapted from the film classic of 1954, which starred Bing Crosby and put the song White Christmas into the history books as the best-selling single of all time, the show will have its own seven-piece band.

The story tells of two Broadway stars Phil and Bob, who hitch up with singing sisters Judy and Betty and travel to the winter wonderland of Vermont where, disastrously, there is no seasonal snow. What’s more they discover that the hotelier about to become bankrupt is their old Army general. They conceive a plan to save all and deliver the perfect Christmas. Heavy on schmaltz and singalong songs, the show can be seen from November 24 until January 17, 2015. The company is giving a specially-adapted dementia-friendly performance on Tuesday, December 16, at 2pm.
