Make a date with the annual Laurel and Hardy film night at the Rex in Elland.

The shows have become a fixture in the cinema’s calendar because of the enduring affection for the comedy legends.

The event date is Saturday, March 22, the bill includes the feature film, Our Relations and three shorts (known as “two reelers”) which are Wrong Again, Brats and Laughing Gravy.

Stan Laurel (Arthur Stanley Jefferson) and Oliver Hardy made 73 20-minute “two reelers” and 26 feature films between 1926 (when films were still silent) and 1952, when their final film Atoll K was released.

Wrong Again, from the silent film era, will have live accompaniment on the Conn organ by James Kenny of Ripponden.

“Our Laurel and Hardy nights have maintained their popularity ever since our first one 20 years ago,” said Charles Morris, the Rex’s proprietor.

“We get members of the Laurel and Hardy ‘tents’, as the fan club is known, coming from far away and some dress up in all their regalia.” Organist Ben Hinchliffe will be playing before the show,” said Charles.

“We get people of all ages coming; it really is quite an experience.”

Tickets are £5. The show starts at 7.30pm.
