Two of this year’s top-performing choirs from the Mrs Sunderland Music Festival will be joining voices in a ‘cup winners’ concert tomorrow evening at Holy Trinity Church in Huddersfield.

Marsh Ladies Choir, winners of the ‘Ladies Choir’ class for 21+ voices; and the Colne Valley Male Voice Choir, who won the ‘Male Voice Choir’ class as well as the Jessie Jameson Baton in the final Choir Prize Challenge at the same competition, will be performing both together and as separate choirs.

Their repertoire will cover sacred and secular music, from ‘Do you hear the people sing?’ in Les Miserables and ‘Zadok the Priest’ by Handel to items by Simon and Garfunkel and Vaughan Williams.

Marsh Ladies Choir was founded in 1955 and now has over 40 members, performing regularly at concerts, special occasions and other events under the musical direction of Ian Abbott. Next year it will be celebrating its Diamond Jubilee.

The Colne Valley Male Voice Choir was established in 1922 in Slaithwaite and over its illustrious history has earned a reputation both as a premier competition and concert choir. Today it is under the musical direction of Thom Meredith.

Tickets for the celebratory concert are £8 each and can be purchased on the door on the evening of the concert, which begins at 7.15pm.
