There's a concert in Birkby later this month which is brimming with music from the worlds of opera and ballet.

Paddock Orchestra plays at St Cuthbert’s Church in Birkby on Saturday, March 15.

This well-established amateur orchestra plays at least three public concerts a year in the Huddersfield area.

It has more than 40 members who rehearse weekly on Tuesdays at Paddock Village Hall.

Barbara Bancroft is the conductor and the orchestra’s principal violinist is Christine Hoare.

At the Birkby concert, the orchestra will play the Overture to the comic opera Abu Hassan by Weber and La Colinda from the opera Koanga by Delius.

The programme will also feature the Prelude and Mazurka from the ballet Coppelia by Delibes and Dvorak’s Symphony No 8 in G major.

The performance starts at 7.30pm and tickets are £7 on the door.

St Cuthbert’s Church is in Grimscar Avenue, Birkby.
