International pianist Evelyne Berezovsky is back in Huddersfield for a second major concert with Slaithwaite Philharmonic Orchestra (SPO).

The Russian-born virtuoso musician, who is just 24-years-old, first appeared with the SPO earlier this year playing Rachmaninov.

On Saturday, September 26, she is to present Beethoven’s Piano Concerto No 4 at the launch of the orchestra’s new concert season in Huddersfield Town Hall.

SPO Musical Director Benjamin Ellis says the concerto may not be as familiar as others by the composer but it is part of the orchestra’s tradition to combine the well-known with the ‘unjustly neglected.’

He is delighted to welcome Evelyne to the town hall once again and added: “Evelyne charmed and wowed the orchestra and audience earlier this year and this second collaboration will really consolidate the relationship between us, which is something that is very exciting.”

Evelyne began playing the piano at the age of five and made her first appearance with a professional orchestra just six years later, playing Mozart’s Concerto K415. She gives recitals all over Europe, the Far East and the USA.

She is a past student of the Purcell School of Music and the Royal Academy of Music in London.

The Beethoven concerto is the central piece in a programme that opens with Berlioz’ Le Carnaval Romain, a vibrant overture, and ends with Brahms’ Symphony No 4, a brooding but beautiful final work by the composer.

Benjamin said: “By the end of this concert we will have worked our way through all the symphonies of Brahms, which is a delightful hallmark to reach.

“This concert lays some beautiful foundations for a season of concerts that will highlight the wide range of repertoire the orchestra performs; it is almost like the starter before the main course.”

Highlights of the season ahead include Verdi’s Requiem, Tchaikovsky’s 5th Symphony and a Scandinavian-themed concert early in 2016, which will be the orchestra’s 125th anniversary year.

Because of repairs to the town hall roof and its closure next year, the first three concerts in the SPO season are being staged earlier than usual.

The season finale in June will take place at Dewsbury Town Hall.
