It's not much of a catchy title - ‘The Farndale Avenue Housing Estate Townswomen’s Guild Dramatic Society Present a Murder Mystery’ - but Holmfirth’s Turn Again Theatre promises that it’s a fabulously silly comedy with laughs guaranteed.

The play-within-a-play, first staged by the company 20 years ago, has been revived for a new generation but will be helped along by two of the original cast.

Steve Baker and Jenny Hinchliffe were both in the first production. This time around, Steve will be coming back for a second helping as a cast member while Jenny is now painting scenery for the re-run.

Other cast members will include Loretta Skelton, Mia Causier, Jonny Campbell and Christine Millington, with Matthew Walshaw making his directorial debut.

The group will deal with scenery collapses, missed cues, forgotten lines and dodgy sound effects as the Farndale ladies discover that what can go wrong will go wrong on the opening night of their murder mystery.

‘Murder at Checkmate Manor’ is beset by numerous problems, including the murderer disappearing just before he or she is unmasked. Will Mrs Reece, doyenne of the group, save the day?

Find out from Wednesday, May 21, to Saturday, May 24, at Holmfirth Civic Hall. Tickets are available from Holmfirth Tourist Information office on 01484 222444.
