HOLMFIRTH will be going art crazy for the next two weekends.
Award-winning artists will take over the Indoor Market for the fifth annual Art Market.
In previous years they have attracted thousands of visitors in a bid to make art accessible for all.
Mirfield Sculptor Helania Sharpley, who has just sold some of her work to renowned artist David Hockney, is attending.
Fiona Pattison, who is helping to promote the show, said: “We’re showing Yorkshire’s best and it’s really good to be able to appreciate the wide range of art there is on your doorstep.
“There will be 80 artists in all – 40 on this Sunday and 40 the week after.
“There’s everything from art and sculptures to fashion and jewellery and there’s a real eclectic mix from the artists.”
Paul Smith’s sculptures sit alongside lighting from Helen Nunn and the work of award-winning artist Samantha Bryan.
The aim of the Art Market is to stimulate interest, knowledge and sales of good quality art, fashion and craft.
It is run by artists for artists to promote the love of art and contemporary crafts to the general public – making art accessible to all.
The Art Market is run by artists Victoria Robinson, Brendan Hesmondhalgh and Deb Price.
Victoria, who also organises the popular Holmfirth Vanstallation art project, added: “The art market makes art accessible to the general public where you can get to know the artist first hand.
“There will be demonstrations from the artists, plus live music and refreshments.’’
It takes place this Sunday from 10am until 4pm at the Holmfirth Indoor Market, Huddersfield Road, and again the following Sunday at the same times.
Entry is £1 on the door and visit www.artmarket.co.uk for more information.
l Also this weekend as part of the Holmfirth Arts Festival there will be a lunchtime concert with the next generation of top young musicians.
Sarah Ogden (soprano), Jenny Stafford (soprano) and Rebecca Robertson (trumpet) will perform at Holmfirth Parish Church on Sunday from 1pm until 2pm. Admission is free.
All three musicians have won the Kirklees Young Musician of the Year title and they are joining forces for the first time together, which will make for an unmissable show.
