A SINGERS’ group have won two top trophies on their return to the festival circuit.
The Pennine Singers Ladies Choir won in the Ladies Class and the Choir Challenge sections at the Penistone Competitive Music Festival last weekend.
It was the first festival they had entered for many years and conductor Gareth Beaumont described the win as a fantastic achievement.
The Singers’ performed Michael Neaum’s The Water of Tyne and Polka by Strauss in the Ladies Class where they were awarded first place and the Donald Booth Trophy.
In the Choir Challenge, where they won first place and the Neville Trophy, they performed Caccini’s Ave Maria.
“It was a fantastic achievement,” Gareth added.
“I’ve been with the choir for two years and was careful about entering them into a festival before we were ready. It was a nice surprise to win, with it being our first time together.”
The Singers are now looking for new members to join them and help contribute towards their success.
If you would like to join the Pennine Singers’ Ladies Choir rehearsals take place at Waverley House, off New North Road, on Thursdays at 7.30pm during term time.
