MUSICIAN Roger Davies is preparing for a return to his ‘home from home’.

The Brighouse-based artist will take to the stage at the Lawrence Batley Theatre next Saturday to launch his forthcoming album The Busker.

Roger has become well known for writing and singing songs about Yorkshire people and places.

And he returns to one of his favourite venues to preview his new material.

The 32-year-old artist said: “I’m really excited about it.

“I love playing at the LBT, it’s a great venue and it’s a home gig for me.

“What makes it special is that I’ve lived round these parts and this album is about what is local.

“The Busker is, in a way, about me but it’s also about the guy who busks outside Boots in the town centre.

“I’ve walked past several times and he’s been playing Fields of Gold.

“I don’t know who he is but it stuck in my mind when I was writing the song.

“Maybe one day I’ll give him a copy and see what he thinks.

“Another song is called Huddersfield Town and it’s got quite a lot of recognition when I’ve played recently.”

For Roger, who turned 32 last week, it’s a return to a venue which he has previously sold-out and played a charity concert there.

Joining him on the night will be Alex Quinn and the Man in the Street plus young singer songwriter Paddy McCallion

But this time the gig is to launch his latest album, The Busker.

On it he collaborates with the renowned Brighouse and Rastrick Brass Band, something he was thrilled about.

“It’s quite something for that one to have come off,” he added.

“They are musicians I’ve admired so to record with them was brilliant and it sounds fantastic.”

Roger has also sought inspiration from artist Peter Brook and hopes to play at one of his forthcoming exhibitions.

“One of my songs is called ‘Peter Brook’s Painting’s and he’s heard it and likes it.

“I’ve played at quite a number of festivals this year, but I love West Yorkshire.

“I write about people and places which interest me and this area does.”

Roger has recently enjoyed a succession of sold-out concerts and performances at a variety of folk concerts from Crawley to Holmfirth.

His new album is available now featuring 11 new songs including the rendition of Brighouse on Saturday Night with the Brighouse and Rastrick Brass Band.

The official launch show takes place next Saturday, October 10, at the Lawrence Batley Theatre.

Doors open at 7.30pm for a 8pm start.

Tickets cost £10, or £8 for concessions and are available now from the Theatre Box Office on 01484 430528.
