FRANK Renton – a famous voice from BBC Radio 2’s Listen To The Band – is heading for Huddersfield.

Frank is travelling back to his Yorkshire roots to act as guest conductor for Brighouse and Rastrick Band at Huddersfield Town Hall on Saturday .

Also performing as guests will be the Desford Colliery band.

Bradford-born Frank was first taught trumpet aged 10 and made rapid progress in his teenage years to become accepted by Black Dyke Mills Band and ultimately James Shepherd Versatile Brass.

Full-time musical education and a military career took him south, where it is still more convenient for him to live given his weekly commitment to the BBC.

His ambition is to beat the number of appearances by the legendary Harry Mortimer, who took almost twenty concerts in Huddersfield from the mid 1940’s.

Coincidentally, he also worked extensively with the BBC.

Frank Renton and Brighouse and Rastrick Band have already worked together this year, when he compered the semi-final broadcast of the BBC Young Brass Musician contest for Radio 2.

The theme for his forthcoming visit is Dances from around the World. Tickets are available from the usual Kirklees outlets. Call 01484 223200 for information.
