IF YOU are a fledgling brass player or a more experienced musician with time on your hands, then there’s a place for you with a band in Honley.

The Yorkshire Traction Honley Band says it has some vacant seats and wants to recruit new players.

The band rehearses on Mondays and Thursdays at the bandroom in Berrycroft just off the village centre.

At its annual meeting, the band’s conductor Nicholas Eastwood said he was delighted with the friendly atmosphere at Honley and the support that he had received in his first year.

When he was appointed last year, Nicholas at 19 was thought to be one of the youngest conductors in the brass world. He is studying for a degree in music at Huddersfield University and was asked to step in when the band needed a temporary conductor.

But as they looked for a permanent conductor, the band realised they had the musician they needed right under their noses and Nicholas got the job.

The band has a full programme with its next concert on home ground with the choir of St Mary’s Church in Honley on May 22.

Officials appointed at the annual meeting were R Sheard (president and treasurer), L Brown (chairman) and P Large (secretary).
