THE Huddersfield Youth Brass Ensemble Association works hard to encourage young brass players.

This year it has got 100% of its students through their exams and is planning for the future.

The association, which incorporates Huddersfield Junior Brass, Huddersfield Youth Brass and Huddersfield and Ripponden Brass, has appointed Tony Jaeger-Fozard as its music theory tutor.

Tony, who is already musical director of the senior band, will teach music theory on Saturday mornings. Alan Jazwinski will continue as instrumental tutor.

Student successes in exams with the Associated Board of the Royal Schools of Music were: (*) denotes a merit, L Rogers (Theory Grade 5); C Buckle (Cornet Grade 5); B Butterfield (Tenor horn Grade 1*); I Castelow (Tenor horn Grade 1*); C Daker (Baritone Grade 1); T Hainsworth (Cornet Grade 1*); R Nall (Euphonium Grade 2); H Rehman (Baritone Grade 1); J Schofield (Cornet Grade 1); A Smith (Euphonium Grade 3*); E Smith (Soprano cornet Grade 6*); L Smith (Cornet Grade 5*); M Smith (Cornet Grade 1*); D Speight (Cornet Grade 1*); M Thombs (Cornet Grade 1*); L Wisniewski(Tenor horn Grade 1*); T Wood-Jones (Trombone Grade 1); O Womersley (Cornet Grade 1*).

Alan Jazwinski said: “Has your child started to learn a brass instrument at school but now needs to continue their hobby by joining a band?

“Have you played previously and would like to resume your involvement in a brass band? Maybe you are an experienced player who would like to pass on your skills by helping with our youth band.”
