FROM Mozart to Michael Jackson.

The York-based Shepherd Group Brass Band certainly know how to entertain with a range of music that goes beyond what is often associated with brass bands.

The band, viewed as York’s premier brass group, plays at St Philip’s Community Centre in Birchencliffe tomorrow, Saturday May 28.

The concert organisers are thrilled to be bringing the band, which has a reputation for its entertaining style and repertoire, to the centre.

It is the first brass concert at the centre since the hall was rebuilt after a fire four years ago.

This is a rare outing into West Yorkshire for the band and proceeds from the concert will go to St Philip’s Church funds.

Since the band’s formation in 1903 it has undergone a number of name changes but has maintained its reputation for quality brass band playing in the York area.

The musicians now play under the banner of Shepherd Group and rehearse in state-of-the-art facilities on the company's site in York.

Its senior band is conducted by Richard Wilton, who spent many years as a player with Grimethorpe Colliery Band.

The York band also has Concert Band and a Beginners Band which underlines the organisation’s determination to discover and nurture new talent.

Tomorrow’s concert starts at 7.30pm and tickets are £8 (adults) and £7 (concessions).
